Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Kickstart Your Career with Hands-On Learning and Paid Opportunities

Are you looking for a way to start your career but unsure where to begin? It can be tough to find a job that offers both learning and real experience, especially when you're just starting out. Without the right qualifications, it’s easy to feel stuck, and you might not know where to start.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council has the perfect solution! Our Apprenticeship and Traineeship Program allows you to earn while you learn, gaining valuable skills and qualifications that will set you up for a successful career. We’ve teamed up with Community Solutions Group, who provide additional support as you complete your qualifications.

    • Earn While You Learn: You’ll be paid to learn, so you don’t have to worry about finances while gaining real-world experience.
    • On-the-Job Learning: Get hands-on training while also studying through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
    • Skills for the Future: Whether you want to work in skilled trades like plumbing and mechanical fitting or fields like business and technology, you’ll gain the skills needed for a lasting career.
    • Apprenticeships (3-4 years):
Apprenticeships are for skilled trades, and they usually take 3-4 years to complete. You’ll receive a trade qualification or licence in your chosen field.

    • Traineeships (1-2 years):
Traineeships are for skills in industries that don’t require a specific trade. They’re shorter and offer experience in areas like business, technology, and administration.
    • You must be 15 years or older.
    • You need to be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident.
    • You shouldn’t have already completed a traineeship in the same field.
    • Support and Mentoring: You’ll receive ongoing training and mentoring throughout the program to ensure you succeed.
    • Great Pay: Earn while you learn, plus enjoy benefits like uniforms, PPE, and 100% paid training costs.
    • Flexible Work: We offer 19-day months or 9-day fortnights to help you balance work and life.
    • Diverse and Inclusive: We welcome applications from all backgrounds, including people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, LGBTIQA+, and other diverse groups.
    • Vacancies for this year have closed. Council will be advertising new positions in August/ September 2025. Keep an eye out
