Council’s Cadetship Program in partnership with Central Queensland University (CQU), provides an opportunity to accelerate your professional growth as you combine paid work with study.

The new Engineering Cadetship program will provide you with practical, hands-on experience so you can put theory into practice while working alongside industry professionals across Council’s Engineering fields.

Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and technical specialists, you will gain exposure and hands on experience in a range of projects and activities across the business that relates to your degree.

Program Inclusions

Diverse Exposure: As a Local Government, we manage a variety of infrastructure, including water and sewage treatment plants, roads, drainage pathways, sewer and water networks, asset management, civil design and master planning & project delivery

Exciting Projects: Council is undertaking a number of exciting projects over the next 12 – 24 months. You will gain exposure to each of these, providing you with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge.

Projects include:

  • New Sewage Pumping Station
  • Renewal of over 5km of water main
  • CBD revitalisations
  • Constructing Bridges and Culverts
  • Expanding our Pathway networks
  • Upgrading and renewing Roads
  • Port Hinchinbrook Dredging
  • Innisfail CBD Stage 1 Priority Project
  • Mission Beach CBD upgrade
  • Renewal of stormwater infrastructure

Develop Knowledge & Skills: Our cadetship program includes on-the-job learning, technical and professional training, role rotations, mentoring, and development opportunities that will provide you with highly valuable industry knowledge and skills

Study for FREE and earn an income along the way. Council will pay for your tuition AND you get paid while building your practical experience ( $57,837 -$71,401 pro rata depending on level of study and experience)

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must currently be studying or accepted to study engineering at CQU (with an intention to major in civil or mechanical engineering)
  • You must be from the Cassowary Coast region
  • You must be an Australian Citizen
