Call for Nominations: Australia Day Awards and Youth Sports Bursary

Nominations are officially open for the Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Australia Day Awards and Youth Sports Bursary, celebrating the outstanding achievements and contributions of our local community members.

In 2024, four new categories will be added to the Australia Day Awards, including Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Education, Young Entrepreneur/s, First Nations Fire, and Excellence and Innovation. 

For the first time, Council’s Youth Sports Bursary will be held as part of the Australia Day Awards which will be an evening ceremony at the Innisfail Shire Hall on 25 January.

Cassowary Coast Mayor Mark Nolan explained how the simple act of nomination can make a huge difference to someone’s life.

“Along with the four additional categories, Council will be combining the Australia Day Awards with Youth Sports Bursary Awards as part of one magnificent celebration,” said Mayor Nolan.

“Our region is built on the dedication and hard work of individuals and groups who enrich our local communities. 

“The Awards are a way of saying thank you and acknowledging their extraordinary efforts, inspiring others to step up and help make a real difference in our community,” said Mayor Nolan.

The Cassowary Coast Australia Day Awards provide the opportunity to publicly celebrate, acknowledge and honour the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups who work tirelessly to improve the Cassowary Coast.

The Youth Sports Bursary Program aims to support young sportspersons and acknowledge outstanding achievements in a non-professional sporting field.
