Premier Riverfront Pathway Complete

Cassowary Coast Reginal Council has now completed the new pathway along Dalrymple Esplanade that highlights the beautiful views of the Johnstone River.

Stage One of the project involved constructing a 2.5 meter wide concreate pathway from Tierney Street to Geraldton Bridge carpark, including a small footbridge.

Division Five Councillor Jeff Baines said the completion of the project allows the community to stroll along the open footpath safely while admiring the beautiful scenery of the esplanade.

“Council now looks to finalise the design for Stage Two ensuring all previous feedback through community engagement is considered.

“Stage Two design will connect the new pathway to Flying Fish Point Road with a loop under the Geraldton Bridge.

“This will allow users from both sides to safely and conformably cross a busy intersection,” said Councillor Baines

Local resident Terry Livingstone said the lovely new open pathway has welcomed new community members and their families to ride and run beside the river both day and night.

“It is a great feeling seeing up to three times the number of users using the footpath showing the benefits to the residents and the wider community.

“Stage Two of the pathway will add value to the area and allow us to walk safely into town on a daily basis,” said Mr Livingstone.

The Dalrymple Esplanade Pathway project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and Cassowary Coast Regional Council. Australian Government funding of $288,572 was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
