Grants Awarded To Empower Seven Local Community Groups

Maintenance to the Mission Beach Sailing Club rescue boat, hosting the NQ Cricket Championships and the development of a website for Etty Bay’s Surf Live Saving Club are among the initiatives being supported by Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s latest Community Grants and Support round.

Councillor Trudy Tschui, Community and Culture portfolio holder said Council had approved over $31,000 in grants to support the delivery of projects and events valued at over $87,000 for seven local community groups and not for profit organisations.

“Each application has demonstrated their important contribution to our community, thanks to these organisations that are managed primarily by volunteers,” said Councillor Tschui

“Council would like to congratulate everyone involved in these valuable projects, and we encourage community groups in need of funding to consider applying under the next round of the Community Grants and Support Program when it opens in early 2024.” said Councillor Tschui.

Tully Motorcycle Club representative, Elisha La Fauci said the Club was extremely pleased to be successful for the grant with the funding being put towards track upgrades in preparation for future events. 

“The upgrade will ensure the safety of our club members during practice and while hosting events. We are also pleased to purchase umbrellas to ensure the sun safety of our volunteer flaggies”. said Elisha La Fauci.

The following organisations will receive funding as part of the latest grant round:

Community Wellbeing and Lifestyle Stream –

  • Six community projects have been awarded a total of over $26,000 in funding, for projects involving:
    • Etty Bay Surf Lifesaving Club for the development of a web site.
    • Tully District Cricket Association to host the NQ Cricket Championships.
    • Mission Arts Theatre Ensemble (Mission Beach Community Arts Centre) to produce Robyn Hood a Cassowary Community Show.
    • Mission Beach Cricket Club to complete weather proofing on cricket practice nets.
    • Tully Motorcycle Club to undertake track upgrades (Safety and OH&S).
    • Mission Beach Sailing Club to undergo maintenance on the club’s rescue boat.

Economic Development Stream

  • Feast of the Senses has been allocated $5,000 to support the 2024 event.

As part of ongoing program development, Council will amend the Community Grants and Support Program Guidelines to merge the Community Wellbeing and Lifestyle stream with the Economic Development Program stream. The new Program Stream called Community and Economy will provide grants with economic and community outcomes.
