JOIN THE BEACH CLEAN-UP PROGRAM TARGETING ABANDONED ITEMS AT LOCAL SHORES
Cassowary Coast Regional Council is continuing its Beach Furniture Clean-Up Program next month, focusing on Kurrimine Beach and South Mission Beach to combat macro-littering in the region.
This initiative aims to remove abandoned furniture, boats, and other items that not only ruin our stunning shores but also pose significant health and safety risks. As our beautiful beaches are places of joy and relaxation, it’s crucial that we keep them clean.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to take responsibility for their belongings. If you bring items like chairs, paddleboards, or swings to the beach, please remember to take them home afterward. Abandoned items can wash into the ocean during high tides and storms, creating hazards and contributing to visual pollution.
During the clean-up, Council officers will impound any items left behind for a 30-day period, which can be reclaimed for a fee of $70.50.
