Motions To Be Submitted To LGAQ Annual Conference For Our Region

Cassowary Coast Regional Council will submit four motions for consideration at the 2023 Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Annual Conference.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor Mark Nolan said these motions are reflected within Council’s 2023 Advocacy Plan and echo the concerns raised by our community in the 2022 Community Scorecard outcomes.

“Each year LGAQ develops an advocacy action plan, designed to highlight the top policy positions and funding priorities which Councils believe are critical to ensuring Queensland flourishes and communities thrive.

“The Annual Conference is an important forum for canvassing and carrying forward new ideas and last year Council brought seven motions to Cairns, with all motions being carried.

This year, Council has identified the following motions for inclusion in the 2023 LGAQ Conference agenda:

  • Reef 2050 - Implementation of the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan (Reef 2050 Plan);
  • Primary Health Care - Collaborative and Place-Based Primary Health Care Services;
  • Works for Queensland Funding – Continued and increased funding; and
  • Community Safety Funding – The establishment of a funding program to fund initiatives that prevent or minimise criminal activity or support the victims of crime or community safety.

“All Councillors were in support of the four motions and look forward to hearing the outcome from this year's conference.

“These forums present a very strategic opportunity to advocate on behalf of our community and connect with other Council’s facing similar issues to our own region,” said Mayor Nolan.
