Banyan and Lions Park Design Consultation Commences
Two concepts for the beautification of Banyan Park are now available for the community to view and vote on.
Earlier this year, Council undertook extensive engagement to understand the community’s vision, needs, and wants for both Banyan and Lions Park. Over 450 contributions were made online and over 150 comments were received during face to face engagement which has helped shape the detailed designs.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council Divisional Councillor Teresa Millwood said Council has listened to the community’s feedback and has created two proposed designs that best represent the feedback provided by the community.
“Key themes which were evident in the feedback included infrastructure that supports our wet and hot climate including undercover seating and BBQ areas, improved signage including interpretive and directional signage, improved parking and improved play space.
“A key component of the engagement was to understand the community’s preference around the location of the Transit Centre and whether it should remain in place or be relocated. As results were split, Council has developed two designs which clearly articulate Council’s vision and are seeking community feedback to influence the final decision on the location of the transit centre,” said Councillor Millwood.
“As we move into the next phase of consultation, I encourage all Tully residents and surrounding community members to vote on their preferred option to guide Council towards the final project design with their vision, needs and wants to create a vibrant arrival point.”
“I believe this project will be a catalyst for the revitalisation of the entrance into Tully and create a space which can be enjoyed by community and visitors and connect to the CBD,” said Councillor Millwood.
Council would like to thank and acknowledge the community members who have participated in the voting process at the Tully Show.
