Free Dry Waste Disposal Weekends Get Ready

 

It’s time to prepare for storm season and protect what’s most important to you.

Council offers free disposal of green waste and certain outdoor items to help residents clean up before storm season.

This storm season Cassowary Coast Regional Council is facilitating free dry waste disposal to assist in cyclone season preparations Friday 18 October 2024 to Monday 21 October 2024 and Friday 08 November 2024 to Monday 11 November 2024

  • Mission Beach;
  • Stoters Hill;
  • Tully; and
  • Cardwell.

The free domestic dry waste disposal will encourage the community to clean up their yards and remove anything that has the potential to become a missile during a cyclone event. Across the region, green waste and other recyclable items can be disposed of for free anytime at the above listed locations. Please note wet waste will remain chargeable and limits will apply on domestic quantities and some items.

Items NOT included in the free dry waste disposal days (charges apply):

Tyres, air-conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, gas bottles, and solar panels.

  • DOMESTIC quantities greater than 4.03mwill be charged at the commercial fee.
  • COMMERCIAL and DOMESTIC (excluding domestic allowance) fees include a waste levy plus GST

Bells Creek, Murray Upper and Hull Heads are omitted from the free weekend due to facility layouts, however free Green Waste still applies at Hull Heads.

Items such as potted plants, outdoor furniture, overhanging branches, and old metal can become dangerous missiles in a storm. Remember, green waste and other recyclable items can be disposed of for free anytime. As long as these items are NOT commercial quantities, sorted before arrival and disposed of in the correct areas at the transfer stations, there is no charge.
