Riding On To The Next Adventure
Cassowary Coast Regional Council, together with the Cardwell community and stakeholders, are riding on to the next stages of the Cardwell Tropical Mountain Bike Trails Project. This follows the endorsement of the Business Case at the September 2023 Special Local Government Meeting.
Economic Development Portfolio Holder, Councillor Renee McLeod said this project to date is a successful collaboration between the local community, Traditional Owners, and stakeholders.
“The Business Case is a critical stage within the project development, and reflects the potential opportunities that the Cardwell Tropical Mountain Bike Trails can contribute to our region,” said Cr McLeod.
President of the Cardwell Mountain Bike Trails Group Mark Sheahan said the community has been passionate about this project for the past five years, and to see the wheels turning is terrific.
“It is a fantastic feeling seeing the momentum of this project flowing and to be a part of the continued partnership between community and traditional owners which has been evident from the beginning.
“This project is a great investment for Tropical North Queensland,” said Mr Sheahan.
The Business Case considers the Cardwell Tropical Mountain Bike Trails Project a significant opportunity to generate increased tourism expenditure which will promote economic growth and enhanced prosperity in Cardwell and the Cassowary Coast region.
In developing this Business Case, the work confirms the strategic opportunity of the Trails, and identifies a commercial, operational and maintenance model for the project. The Business Case provides a foundation for seeking future funding support to progress the recommendations and this community-led initiative to Detailed Design, Approvals and Due Diligence (Preconstruction) and a Final Investment Decision.
Council will continue to engage and collaborate with the Cardwell community and project stakeholders including the Girramay People Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC, Girringun Aboriginal Corporation, Cardwell Mountain Bike Trails Community Group and state and federal agencies.
The Cardwell Tropical Mountain Bike Trails Business Case was developed with the support of the Queensland Government in association with Cassowary Coast Regional Council, the Cardwell community, and the Girramay Peoples Aboriginal Corporation.
