STAY INDOORS – Cassowary Coast Region – Tropical Cyclone Jasper as at 8am, Wednesday 13 December 2023

This warning is from Local Disaster Management Group / Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

Tropical Cyclone Jasper is likely to make landfall further north today. It is still dangerous because of heavy rain and strong winds.

Stay indoors or limit unnecessary travel until the cyclone has passed landfall.

The latest Bureau of Meteorology updates suggest that cyclone Jasper is likely to make landfall further north later today. While it will not directly impact the Cassowary Coast it is advised for residents to remain vigilant and to stay indoors where possible.

The potential impact of a storm surge, strong winds and heavy rain cannot be underestimated. There is still a risk of heavy rain causing flooding as Cyclone Jasper crosses the coast later today.  If it’s flooded, forget it.

  • There has been minimal damage.
  • Some places could become flooded.

What you should do

  • Stay in your shelter for safety.
  • Avoid going outside.
  • Do not use generators inside. Fumes can be deadly.
  • Limit use of devices to save batteries, and how much water you drink to make supplies last longer.
