Callendar Park’s $3.9 Million Drainage Project Wrapped Up

Back

The $3.9 million Callendar Park drainage project is complete, marking a significant upgrade to Innisfail’s stormwater infrastructure. Executed by MGN Civil, the project has replaced approximately 60 metres of aging stormwater pipes, providing vital improvements to the drainage system.

The project focused on the removal and replacement of damaged and unserviceable culverts, which channel water from Warrina Lakes through Callendar Park to the Johnstone River. This was necessary to mitigate the risks of system failures and uncontrolled flooding, both of which have the potential to disrupt the community.

Throughout the construction process, Council and MGN Civil worked closely together to monitor conditions carefully, adapting their strategies to manage the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and fluctuating water levels.

In addition to the drainage project, Council has redesigned the road network along Fitzgerald Esplanade. The section between Emily Street and Campbell Street has transitioned to a one-way traffic system, allowing for a safer flow of vehicles and pedestrians. The project also includes a new pathway, connecting residents to existing walking routes and providing safer pedestrian access into the heart of town. These changes aim to encourage walking, promote active lifestyles, and enhance the vibrancy of the area.

Council has acknowledged a petition that has been submitted to Council by community members. The full report about the petition will be presented at the upcoming April Local Government Meeting (LGM).
