January 8, 2020 - COUNCIL ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO REMAIN VIGILANT AGAINST COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Cassowary Coast Mayor Mark Nolan said with the unfolding situation in the south-eastern corner of Queensland, it is a timely reminder on how quickly the situation can change.

“Council and other agencies are working together to minimise any potential exposure within our community. We need to personally ensure we take all steps necessary to protect ourselves – in particular social distancing, hand washing and if sick, get tested and stay at home until you have a negative result,”

“We are all in this together, please look after each other while maintaining appropriate safeguards,”

“Our community can also congratulate itself for the support it has shown to each other throughout 2020 and now in 2021, and for the calm manner in which we have all adjusted our daily routine. 

“As we have been advised by the state government- it’s important that we remain aware of, and informed but not alarmed. Queensland has responded strongly to this pandemic over the past 12 months and will continue to do so,”

“If any residents are planning to travel to Brisbane this week, please reconsider and stay in Far North Queensland. I would also encourage all residents to keep up to date with the latest information from the Queensland Government and to get tested if feeling unwell,” Councillor Nolan said.

At this time there is no new reported case of COVID-19 in the Cassowary Coast region.
