January 13, 2021 RENOVATIONS TO MISSION BEACH LIBRARY TO COMMENCE

Cassowary Coast Regional Council wishes to advise that Mission Beach Library will be closed temporarily for up to eight weeks to allow for stage 2 of renovations at the facility.

The Mission Beach Library Upgrade is part of Council’s plan to provide infrastructure that meets current and future needs while also providing access to enhanced education and learning.

Division 3 Councillor and Community and Culture portfolio holder Councillor Trudy Tschui said the last operating day for the library would be Saturday 30 January 2021 with renovations planned to commence from Monday 1 February 2021.

“These renovations will build on the great work that was already completed in mid-2020 to improve facilities at the Mission Beach Library which saw the installation of a disability access ramp and new automatic doors.

“Renovations being undertaken as part of stage 2 include improving disability access, installation of a new meeting room, which will be available for public bookings, improved public areas with new desks for study or laptop users to utilise and refresh of the interiors with new wall painting, carpet, shelving and furniture including more comfortable seating.

“Library staff look forward to re-welcoming customers to the library when they reopen however in the meantime are offering the ability to  collect reserved items from the office at the rear of the building on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30am to 10:30am. Books can be reserved by logging on to the catalogue at http://library.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/ or contacting any library on 1300 366 616.

“There will also be an after-hours return bin on site 24/7 during the closure period so local residents can return items in a convenient location. The bin will be located at the rear of the building, near the physio’s office.

“Community feedback combined with mandated requirements based on Council’s Service Agreement for operating a Queensland Public Library were taken into consideration when designing the upgrade,” Councillor Tschui said.

Council is committed to keeping the community informed about the project and will provide advance notification of additional closures should they arise and as required.
