March 8, 2021- CHOOSE TO CHALLENGE- INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2021

Back

"The theme on Monday 8 March 2021 is Choose to Challenge. It’s up to all of us to choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Together, we can all help create an inclusive world.

"I have been blessed to have been surrounded by strong, inspirational women- both personally and at Council. I have been married to a motivated and supportive woman for over 46 years. My daughter is also an inspiration to me as a social worker who assists the underprivileged and needy in our community.

"It is my dream that my granddaughters and great granddaughter will grow up in a world where their gender does not hold them back from achieving their dreams."

Councillor Kylie Farinelli said that International Women’s Day was an important day to celebrate all women and to celebrate those who came before us, those who stand beside us now, and those who will come after us.

"My mother has been an inspiration to me and showed me from a young age that I could achieve anything that I put my mind to. My mother ran her own business and having a strong role model from a young age has helped me not feel held back by my gender when reaching for my goals.

"I am the Zone One Representative on the Australian Local Government Women’s Association in Queensland. It is my goal to break down barriers for other women and to encourage other women to participate in Local Government or to challenge the status quo in whatever field they are working in.

"Together, we can make a positive difference for all of our tomorrows," Councillor Farinelli said.
