June 1, 2020 - FREE VOLUNTEER & EVENTS TRAINING FOR CASSOWARY COAST RESIDENTS

Back

Cassowary Coast residents are eligible to enrol in a free online volunteer and events training course delivered by TAFE Queensland designed to boost the skill of volunteers in the events sector and support the recovery of tourism in the region.

Delivered in three modules of ‘orientation’, ‘resilience’ and ‘leadership, the bespoke regionalised online training program is aimed at both paid event organisers and unpaid volunteers to build skills and knowledge to deliver successful events.

The Cassowary Coast is popular for annual sports and community events such as Kurrimine Fishing Competition, Feast of the Senses, Ona Mission Multisport Adventure race and growing events such as the Cassowary Festival at Mission Beach, the Tropical Art Deco Weekend in Tully and Innisfail, and the extraordinary UFO Festival in Cardwell.

Key to the success of each of these events is strong coordination skill and the recruitment of volunteers.

The program is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

All residents of the Cassowary Coast are eligible to enrol at https://vetp.tafeqld.edu.au/program/8/cassowary-coast.

Quotes attributed to Cassowary Coast Regional Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism, Cr. Kylie Farinelli:

“Intra-regional tourism and the drawcard of events will play a big role in rebuilding our economy post-COVID, and this course is a great opportunity for our residents to get ready.

“Strong coordination and teams of volunteers are critical to each and every event which we host on the Cassowary Coast, and we encourage everyone who’s involved in an event to embrace this opportunity to upskill.”
