SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 - ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES AND HELP CLEAN UP KURRIMINE BEACH

Back

Kurrimine Beach Community groups are hosting a Great Barrier Reef Clean-up day at Kurrimine Beach on 2 October and they invite you to attend.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services, Cassowary Coast Local Marine Advisory Committee, Kurrimine Beach Progress Association and Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club are working together to run the annual event which has previously seen hundreds of kilograms of marine debris removed from the beach.

Environmental portfolio holder, Councillor Jeff Baines encourages the whole community to get involved and participate in the clean-up which will begin at 8:30am at Tafiolis Park.

“The aim of the day is to clean the beach north of the boat ramp, in front of the Township, all the way down to Maria Creek.

“Kurrimine Beach Progress Association will run a BBQ at lunch for the volunteers and Council and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service’s will have quad bikes and buggies to assist in the transport and removal of rubbish.

“Also involved in the day is Tangaroa Blue, who will assist in event registration and rubbish sorting and assessment, as well as the Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club who will drive logistics and help organise volunteers,” said Councillor Baines.

“It is great to see so many local organisations come together to support this event.

“We hope to see as many volunteers down on the day to help clean-up our beautiful beach.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle, ensure they wear sunscreen and bring shoes for safety.
