OCTOBER 28, 2021 - WARRAMI ROAD UPGRADE UNDERWAY

Back

Works have begun on Warrami Road as part of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The project will involve sealing and widening a 1.2 kilometres section of the road and renewing existing drainage.

Planning and Regional Development portfolio holder, Councillor Nicholas Pervan said Warrami Road is part of the road network at the Murray Upper Region that connects to cattle properties, cane farms, banana farms and private properties.

“The unsealed section of Warrami Road was identified as a key project due to the ongoing maintenance required to keep this road open and safe for the community.

“On average this section of Warrami Road gets graded up to five times per year due to it being continually washed away.

“Once complete, the sealed road will improve flood immunity and also reduce the maintenance and upkeep usually required for an unsealed road,” said Councillor Pervan.

Federal Member Honourable Bob Katter thanked the Federal Government for their funding.

“We thank the Federal Government for the funding for these works.  Murray Upper is a vital component of our basket of tourist attractions on the ‘Paradise Coast’,” he said.

“Finally, our local and visiting community will be able to tour these areas safely year-round, but especially in the wet season.

“I wish to put on the official record my most sincere thanks to all those in the community who have made this possible,” said Mr Katter.

The project should be completed by the end of October and residents are reminded to mindful of the works and traffic delays that may occur.

The $750,000 upgrade is fully funded by the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

This program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
