APRIL 21, 2022 - ANZAC DAY ON THE CASSOWARY COAST

Back

April 25 is a day of national remembrance, marking the anniversary of the first major military battle fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I (WWI).

Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day we remember all Australians who served and particularly those who have died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

We admire the valour and we mourn the loss of those who fought at Gallipoli and throughout WWI, those who, several decades later, battled to fight back invading armies to save French and Belgian villages or to stave off threats in the Pacific or, later again, in jungles in Vietnam, and since in deserts, and wherever and whenever they have been called to fight or to keep peace.

We particularly commemorate those who answered the call to arms in service of their country and paid the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the freedoms we enjoy.

In pausing to commemorate those who have served and sacrificed, our thoughts also go out to those who are still serving on the frontlines. To our army, air force and navy personnel presently on active service overseas, those supporting them and the families who are waiting for their loved ones to return.

A number of commemorations will be held across the Cassowary Coast in 2022 to honour and remember those who have served and are still severing. Services will be held on Monday April 2022 at the below locations.
