Evolving the Cassowary Coast into a premier tourist destination is set to ramp up over the next three years with Council formally signing a new service and funding agreement with Local Tourism Organisation, Cassowary Coast Tourism on 22 June 2023.

The new agreement will focus on providing a seamless service across all visitor interactions, from home-to-home, online and face-to-face. And improving the online presence of the Cassowary Coast, to capture the visitor market prior to their arrival in the region.

As the Local Tourism Organisation, Cassowary Coast Tourism can also leverage destination marketing resources and funding opportunities through the Queensland Tourism Framework. Cassowary Coast Tourism have committed to advancing local industry representation and reaching one million visitor nights within the Cassowary Coast region by June 2026.

Cassowary Coast Tourism Chair Nancy Lowe said:

“On behalf of the board of Cassowary Coast Tourism we are delighted to sign off on a new three-year funding agreement with Council. There are some significant opportunities in the pipeline over the next three to five years as we witness, new tourism investment in the Cassowary Coast region.

“The funding agreement reinforces Council’s commitment to the tourism industry within the region and the work being carried out by Cassowary Coast Tourism,” said Nancy Lowe.

Economic and Tourism portfolio holder, Councillor Renee McLeod said that the new agreement will put a strong focus on investment to facilitate sustainable economic growth in the visitor economy while advancing the region’s destination marketing and promotion.

“Council has requested Cassowary Coast Tourism support the development of Indigenous Tourism Products which is to be developed in partnership with our region’s Traditional Owners along with an annual marketing plan targeting increased destination awareness and growing the visitor economy.

“Hosting and promoting a regional online event calendar and collaborating with Council in the region’s journey for Eco Certification are also key indicator Cassowary Coast Tourism will look to achieve.

“Establishing a new agreement continues to build on the region’s current tourism structure and resourcing to advance the journey over the next three years in line with Queensland’s Tourism Framework and also leverage destination marketing funding opportunities not currently available to Council,” said Councillor McLeod.
