New Shared Path Open, Linking Wongaling Beach To South Mission Beach

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Councillor, Trudy Tschui, said she was pleased to announce the completion of the crucial pathway that provides connectivity between South Mission to Wongaling Beach.

“This 225-metre shared pathway marks a milestone in enhancing travel options for the community, providing safer infrastructure for visitors and residents to explore the area.

“The completed pathway will have a positive impact on the community by creating an accessible route for pedestrians and bike riders alike. By providing a safe and convenient connection, this pathway will encourage more people to choose active modes of transport, which contributes to a healthier and more sustainable community.”

The project installed a 225-metre concrete shared path along South Mission Beach Road, near Seafarer and Commodore Streets, and is between 2.5 metres to 3 metres wide. The project also renewed and extended an existing concrete culvert and installed kerb and channel along the road.

Councillor Tschui said that Council extends our appreciation to the Queensland Government for their support in making this project a reality.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Queensland Government has invested $400,000 to support the delivery of the Mission Beach Shared Path through the popular Cycle Network Local Government Grants program.

"The Queensland Government wants more people to experience the joy of riding a bike to work, school, socialise, the shops or for recreation" Mr Bailey said.

"We know that on average, every dollar we invest in bike-riding infrastructure will return nearly five dollars in economic benefit to Queensland with improved health outcomes, reduced traffic congestion and lower transport costs.

"That's why we have committed $328 million from 2023–2024 to 2026–2027 towards standalone active transport initiatives, including bikeways, shared paths and bridges across the state."

This project is jointly funded by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants program.
