$1.4m Geraldton Bridge restoration to commence 7 Jan

Innisfail’s iconic Geraldton Bridge will undergo a $1.4 million facelift with the first stage of restoration works due to commence from Sunday 7 January through to Wednesday 17 January 2024.

Geraldton Bridge connects the CBD of Innisfail with residents in Innisfail Estate, Flying Fish Point, and other nearby suburbs, with the scope of restoration to include cleaning, repairing concrete spalls, sealing and renewal of expansion joints.

Cassowary Coast Councillor for Asset Sustainability Barry Barnes said bridge maintenance plays an important part in preserving the longevity of the bridges across our region.

“The Cassowary Coast has 169 bridges which Council undertakes routine maintenance and upkeep to ensure an efficient and safe road network is maintained.

“While we’re working on Geraldton bridge there may be single lane closures, however traffic control will be in place to maintain travel in both directions at all times. The project will be delivered over two stages with crews working night and day to mitigate impacts to the community,” Cr. Barnes said.


Stage One:

The first phase primarily involves the cleaning of the bridge. Anticipated traffic impacts are from Monday 8 January to Saturday 13 January from 6:00pm each evening when the bridge will operate under a single lane closure and intermittent traffic holds (eastbound and westbound). Travel will be maintained in both directions under traffic control. Day works will take place from 13 January to Wednesday 17 January, with no lane closures planned during this time.


Stage Two:

This stage is currently awaiting confirmation of dates, with further details to be provided as soon as they are available.
