Cassowary Coast Library and Museum Services Connects Communities with Tully 100 Photo Exhibition

Cassowary Coast Library and Museum Services is pleased to present Connecting Communities Photo Exhibition in support of celebrations of Tully’s 100th anniversary.

The exhibition will be held across all library locations from 13 May to 21 June 2024, showcasing historical connections of Cassowary Coast townships with Tully.

Councillor for Community, Culture and Liveability Trudy Tschui said the exhibition will showcase the interwoven narratives of the region, with special events planned at each library to acknowledge contributions from the local community.

“The exhibitions are procured in partnership with local historical societies to delve into various facets of our shared heritage, from the architectural legacy of Art Deco to the communal spirit fostered through recreation and sports,” Cr. Tschui said.

“It’ll showcase the interwoven narratives of our region, highlighting the bonds that tie Tully with other major towns including Cardwell, Innisfail and Mission Beach.”

Community members are invited to exhibition openings at the following locations:

  • Thursday 23 May, 2:30pm at Mission Beach Library – ‘Recreation Exhibition’ presented by the Mission Beach Historical Society
  • Friday 24 May, 10:30am at Innisfail Library – ‘Art Deco Exhibition’ presented by the Innisfail and District Historical Society       
  • Monday 27 May, 11:00am, at Cardwell Heritage Precinct, ‘Local Government Exhibition’ presented by Cardwell Historical Society

Councillor Tschui explained that Cassowary Coast Libraries has formalised its amalgamation with the Cardwell Heritage Precinct to rebrand as ‘Cassowary Coast Library and Museum Services’.

“An important role that our libraries’ have always had in our community is to collect, catalogue, archive and preserve the region's rich history, and we were pleased to recently add the Cardwell Heritage Precinct to their services,” Cr. Tschui said.

“The libraries can provide residents with access to find stories, documents and images in the Local Heritage Collection & Museums register through their website, as well as access to tools to help with research into local or family histories.”
