Council Grants $93.2K to Community Initiatives across 26 Cassowary Coast organisations
In one of the largest community grant rounds in Council history, Cassowary Coast Regional Council will disburse more than $93,200 across twenty-six organisations following an endorsement of panel recommendations at the May Local Government Meeting.
The grants are spread across three funding streams including ‘Environmental Sustainability’ ($23,000), Community and Economy ($56,700) and Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF - $13,500). The overall value of all the funded projects is $226,500 ranging from cultural festivals and sporting events to club equipment and activities.
Cassowary Coast Councillor for Community, Culture and Liveability Trudy Tschui congratulated the recipient organisations for their valuable contributions to the region’s community.
“The aim of Council’s community grants program is to support a more sustainable and resilient community by delivering social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes through various funding streams,” Cr. Tschui said.
“While this round of grants is considerable, it pales in comparison to the value that each of our community organisations invest into our region’s health and wellbeing, as well as culture and liveability.”
The Greek Orthodox Community of Innisfail and North Queensland was delighted to be recipient of a Community and Economy grant to assist in the delivery of a Greek Taverna night.
“We’re excited to showcase our Greek culture, something that has been part of our region for almost ninety years,” said Ourania Conomos from the Greek Orthodox Community of Innisfail and North Queensland.
“We’re pleased to announce the Greek Taverna night will be held at the Innisfail Shire Hall on Saturday 28 September in celebration of Greek language, food, music and dancing.
“I would encourage other community organisations to apply for funding through this program to assist in projects that celebrate our lifestyle, and to see the benefits flow on to our local community and economy.”
Throughout the 2023-24 financial year, Cassowary Coast Regional Council has injected over $200,000 into local organisations and non-profit projects through community grants and RADF programs. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Cassowary Coast Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
