Let's Make Every Drop Count - Water Wise Campaign 2024
As the temperature heats up, Cassowary Coast looks to cool things down and celebrate National Water Week by relaunching Council’s Water Wise campaign.
Mayor Teresa Millwood, noted that even though the Cassowary Coast is one of the wettest areas in Australia, the community still consumes an estimated 5,500 million litres of water annually.
“Water is a precious resource, and National Water Week provides a timely reminder to everyone about the need to conserve it. Small, everyday actions can make a huge difference in preserving water,” said Councillor Millwood.
The campaign encourages residents to adopt simple, water-efficient habits, such as turning off the tap while brushing teeth and installing water-saving devices like efficient shower heads.
"By changing small behaviours, not only can we reduce our overall water consumption, but we can also save money and contribute to environmental protection,” added Councillor Millwood.
Property owners that have smart water meters installed are encouraged to sign up to the Water Portal which allows residents to track the water usage of their property and detect leaks quickly.
Council’s Water Wise campaign aligns with National Water Week’s broader goal of raising awareness about the importance of sustainable water management. The theme for this year emphasises taking action to reduce water waste, especially as the region heads into warmer months.
Water-saving tips and further details about the campaign can be found on Council’s website, where residents can explore ways to make their households more water-efficient.
