Roads & Footpaths / Kerb & Channelling / Drainage
Cassowary Coast Regional Council allocates funding each year to undertake various road-related projects including ongoing maintenance activities. To improve the safety and amenity of the region's footpaths and bikeways, Council allocates funds each year towards the construction of new footpaths and the renewal and maintenance of existing footpaths. Council undertakes condition audits of the entire footpath network and carefully considers projects when footpaths need to be rehabilitated.
Kerb and channel are a concrete structure, typically located at the edge of a road. It is designed to provide road drainage and prevent water entering under the road surface, which helps Council to maintain road conditions and reduce the number of potholes and road defects.
- New works – installing kerb and channel on streets that currently either have none or asphalt kerb; or
- Rehabilitation – repair work to existing kerb and channel that is no longer functioning properly.
Council's stormwater drainage system is located within roads, open space areas and reserves and within some private properties. Each year Council invests in improving local drainage across the region as well as undertaking ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation of existing stormwater assets
