Project Update: Callendar Park Drainage Works

Back

Council would like to provide an update on the Callendar Park drainage upgrade works.

The project to upgrade Callendar Park Critical drainage infrastructure has been subject to several weather delays and issues related to obtaining a contractor’s temporary works design and certification needed. These documents are required to ensure the safety of the contractors, employees, and the community on and adjacent to the site.

Given these delays and the available time left to complete the works safely before the upcoming wet season, Council has made the decision to postpone the works to commence in more favourable conditions in 2024.

We understand the importance of this project and we’ll keep you updated once a new commencement date has been finalised.

Council thanks the community for their understanding.

Project Background:

The Callendar Park drainage project will undertake major renewal works to replace part of the drainage system located in and near Callendar Park, Cullinane and several nearby streets including a section of Ernest Street and Fitzgerald Esplanade.

The $2.4 million project will replace approximately 100 metres of ageing box culverts. The new drainage infrastructure is expected to give about 50 additional years of service and will mitigate the risk of localised flooding issues.

The project is fully funded by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
