Innisfail CBD Revitalisation - Short Term Initiatives

Back

Innisfail will be a vibrant and welcoming city loved by locals and adored by visitors. Innisfail is where the Rivers of the lush Rainforest meet the Reef. It is the gateway to the world’s natural wonders of the Tropical North bursting with Chjowai culture and a proud multicultural heritage.

That is the Vision of the Innisfail CBD Revitalisation Masterplan which was endorsed at the August 2023 Local Government Meeting.

Throughout the development of the Masterplan, the Innisfail Stakeholder Reference Group has been instrumental in supporting the community engagement process with a recent focus on the short-term initiatives. The top three short-term priority initiatives identified are Illuminate Innisfail, Edith Street Urban Rainforest, and Activate Chjowai.

Council is developing an implementation plan that is focused on the deliverables of the Masterplan from short-term priority initiatives through to longer-term opportunities.  The plan is based on collaboration between Council and the Community as well as seeking and receiving State and Federal Government funding contributions.

The Implementation Plan will be presented to Council in late 2023 and will continue our collaborative approach with the community to move forward with the short-term initiatives. Council also has a budget allocation of $40,000 in the current financial year to commence delivery of the short-term initiatives through community involvement.

The long-term aspirations of the Masterplan will be implemented across the next decade and beyond with an estimated cost of $144 million. Council is committed to working with our partners, State and Federal Governments as well as the community to take a strategic approach for the delivery to deliver sustainable and tangible outcomes.
