THREAT IS REDUCED – Cassowary Coast Region – Ex Tropical Cyclone Jasper as at 6:00am Thursday, 14 December 2023

Warning level: ADVICE

Warning area: Cassowary Coast Region

This warning is from Local Disaster Management Group / Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

When you go outside be careful of dangers left behind from strong winds and rain.

For flood and storm help, call the SES on 132 500 or download the SES Assistance Queensland app. 

Impacts from the strong winds and rain in your area may include:

  • Damage to roads
  • Floodwater. Do not drive through, enter or play in floodwater or storm water drains.
  • Power outages or phone and internet service interruptions.
  • Debris on the ground outside.
  • Fallen trees and branches blocking roads. 

What you should do:

  • Stay away from fallen powerlines.
  • Drive slowly, obey all road signs and never drive through floodwaters. If the road is flooded or damaged, go another way.
  • Stay away from creeks, rivers and storm water drains.
  • Help friends and neighbours/ clean up if you can and safe to do so.

If your home or business has been damaged

  • Check it is safe before going into a damaged area.
  • Have all electrical and gas equipment tested by a qualified electrician before use.
  • If water went above power points have the house checked by a qualified electrician before turning the power back on.
  • Clean and dry out the building as soon as it is safe to. 
  • Be careful where you walk.
  • Protect your health and safety:
    • Wear boots, gloves and protective clothing when cleaning up. 
    • Wash your hands and clothes often.
    • If you lost power for more than four hours, throw away food that is not cold anymore.
