Interruptions to Council Services due to Major Flooding in Cassowary Coast

Major flooding in the Cassowary Coast has resulted in several interruptions to Council services. While Council remains focused on maintaining essential services to the community, residents are advised of the following:

Kerbside bin collection to proceed where possible Monday 18 December

All residents who would usually have their bin collected on Mondays are advised to present bins to the kerb tomorrow morning (Monday 18 December) where it’s safe to do so.  Cleanaway trucks will endeavour to collect bins on Monday morning where road access is available and it’s safe to do so.  Council will schedule additional services later in the week for bins that weren’t able to be collected due to accessibility and safety concerns.

Waste Transfer Stations and landfills will be closed Monday 18 December

Due to accessibility and safety concerns all Cassowary Coast Waste Transfer Stations and landfills will be closed to the public on Monday 18 December.

Cassowary Coast Libraries closed Monday 18 December

Due to accessibility and safety concerns Cassowary Coast Libraries will be closed Monday 18 December. 

Customer Service Centres will be taking phone and email enquiries only Monday 18 December

Due to accessibility and safety concerns all Council Customer Service Centres will be closed Monday 18 December.  Council’s customer service phoneline (1300 763 903) and email (enquiries@cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au) will still be available to take enquiries, however all customers are urged to postpone non-urgent Council business to a later date.

And residents are reminded of the following water announcements as issued earlier today:

Boil Water Alert – Tully and surrounds

Residents in Tully town, Feluga, East Feluga, Bulgun, Silky Oak, Euramo, Hull Heads, Tully Heads, Merryburn, Carmoo, Jarra Creek area (Syndicate Road and Mullins Road) are advised to boil drinking water until further notice.  Read more at https://www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/news/article/1103/boil-water-alert-tully-and-surrounds-.

Conserve Water

All Cassowary Coast residents are urged to ONLY use water for drinking and hygiene purposes and refrain from using water for non-essential activities. 

The region is currently under Emergency Alert due to flooding which has resulted in blockages at several water infrastructure intakes, restricting water supply to the Cassowary Coast.  Flood affected roads and restricted access to the region’s water infrastructure will cause delays in Council teams being able to attend to these blockages.

The current flood alert warning level as issued at 1pm today is Emergency – Take Shelter.
