Flood Watch Issued for Cassowary Coast

BoM Flood Watch Issued for North Tropical Coast and Central Coast 12:07pm
Cassowary Coast residents are advised of potential minor to moderate flooding, with isolated major flooding possible from Saturday due to heavy rainfall. A tropical low in the Coral Sea is bringing increased rainfall and strong onshore winds.
Key points:
- Heavy rain is expected from Friday, with the heaviest falls likely near the coast and over higher terrain.
- River levels may rise again from Friday evening, with possible flooding in local catchments.
- Elevated tides may worsen flooding in coastal areas.
Some communities may become isolated, and transport routes could be disrupted.
Affected catchments include:
- Johnstone River, Murray River, and Herbert River
- Tully River, Mulgrave and Russell Rivers (currently under flood warnings)
