Do you know a young athlete who is making waves in their sport? Whether they’re scoring goals, breaking records, or showing incredible dedication behind the scenes, now is the time to recognise their hard work. Nominations are now open for the 2025 Youth Sports Bursary Awards, an initiative by Cassowary Coast Regional Council to celebrate and support the region’s rising sports stars.

This annual program provides young athletes with a $200 bursary to help ease the financial costs of sporting memberships, equipment, uniforms, or travel, giving them the boost they need to chase their dreams.

The awards are open to athletes aged 8 to 18 years across six categories:

•           Junior Sports Female (8-12 years)

•           Junior Sports Male (8-12 years)

•           Senior Sports Female (13-18 years)

•           Senior Sports Male (13-18 years)

•           Youth with a Disability – Female (8-18 years)

•           Youth with a Disability – Male (8-18 years)

Cassowary Coast Mayor Teresa Millwood said the bursary awards are all about backing young talent and ensuring local athletes have the support they need to go further.

“Our region is home to some incredibly talented young athletes, and this program is designed to give them a helping hand. Sport teaches resilience, teamwork, and determination, and we’re proud to recognise the hard work and achievements of these young competitors,” Mayor Millwood said.

Nominations close on Friday, 28 March 2025, with winners to be announced at a special awards ceremony on Thursday, 29 May 2025.

Whether they’re competing at local, state, or national levels, now is the time to nominate a young athlete who deserves recognition. Coaches, parents, teachers, and community members are encouraged to submit nominations and help celebrate the next generation of sporting success.
