Back

The boating facility is being constructed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and is expected to be complete by mid November 2020.

The facility will offer a two-lane public boat ramp, two berthing pontoons, a floating walkway, six pen berths and five swing moorings. Once constructed, ongoing management of the facility will be handed over to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

Councillor Barry Barnes who holds the Asset Sustainability portfolio said Council is inviting businesses to apply to rent the pen mooring berths and/or four of the swing moorings.

“The rents have been set by a Certified Practising Valuer and the selection criteria is based on qualitative and quantitative criteria,” said Cr Barnes

“Council will look to accommodate a cross-section of industries as part of its award process, such as charter companies, Reef tours, boutique cruises and water taxis,”

“Operations of this nature have been limited in the past due to the lack of infrastructure, these types of businesses and services will benefit the community by promoting and bringing people to the region.” Cr Barnes said.
