Educational workshops, new wall murals and development of plans for future expansion of the Mission Arts building will be brought to life as part of projects funded by the Cassowary Coast Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

Councillor Trudy Tschui who holds the Community and Culture portfolio said a total of $21,672 had been awarded for local arts initiatives.

“In 2020, we have been reminded of the impact that arts has in our community and the RADF grants help the local creative community to share their ideas, works and skills for us all to enjoy.

“The Innisfail & District Historical Societies will work in unison to develop websites that will unite and link the Cassowary Coast historical groups and will run workshops to build the capacity of volunteers to self-maintain and manage a whole of region digital profile.

“Mission Beach Tourism will use the grant towards costs of engaging local artist Lavinia Letheby to install wall murals on the toilet block and Visitor & Information Centre through a community based project and Mission Beach Community Arts Centre will be engaging specialist architects to develop a concept and shovel ready plan for future expansion of their building.

“I cannot wait to see the completed works and these pieces forming part of the beautiful landscape of Mission Beach,” Councillor Tschui said.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said that the long standing RADF program would help to boost Queensland’s plan for economic recovery, supporting artists and arts workers with employment opportunities through $4.2 million in funding for regional cultural projects.

“The Palaszczuk Government is investing $2.08 million in RADF for 2020-21 and an additional $2.13 million will be contributed by 59 councils across Queensland,” Minister Enoch said.

“Each year RADF showcases the extraordinary innovation of the arts and cultural sector in regional communities, delivers rich arts experiences and provides important professional opportunities for artists and arts workers.”

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Cassowary Coast Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
