APRIL 22, 2021 - COUNCIL RECOGNISED WITH POSITIVE COMPLIANCE REVIEW RESULT

Cassowary Coast Regional Council have been recognised for its strong compliance and governance culture with the positive outcome of a desktop audit review.

Mayor Mark Nolan said the 90% result was welcome recognition of the strong culture towards good governance, risk management and compliance within Council.

“Councils practices’ enable business to be conducted in compliance with legal and policy requirements. This includes compliance with the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012, industry codes and organisational standards, as well as standards of good corporate governance, risk management, best practices and, ethics and help meet community expectations.

“Our aim is to provide transparency about our approach to compliance and to foster public confidence by having policies and information readily available on Council’s website.”

Councillor Nolan stated that in an ethical culture, Council team members and leaders understand why doing the right thing is important for the region’s long-term viability, and that all employees have the determination, courage and freedom to see that the right thing gets done. Outcomes are made sustainable by embedding risk and compliance in the culture of the organisation and is encouraged in the behaviour and attitude of people working for Council.

“We are thankful to the team at the Local Government division of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, who conducted the review and provided Council with feedback. We have been able to immediately remedy any action items identified and look forward to aiming for a perfect score on the next review.”
