June 9, 2021- CLARIFICATION ON ARTICLE IN CAIRNS POST ON DOG ATTACK

Back

Cassowary Coast Regional Council would like to provide clarification on an article published in the Cairns Post on Wednesday 9 June 2021, about a recent dog attack in the Mission Beach area.

At this stage, Council can confirm that we are aware of an attack in Mission Beach between two dogs on Friday 4 June 2021. We can confirm that an investigation is underway.

Council has not had any official complaints in relation to allegations of a dog attacking a horse.

Council takes reports of animal attacks and off leash animals in public places as a serious matter. Increased Council patrols have been initiated and enforcement action will be undertaken if dogs are found to be off leash.

If your dog attacks a person or an animal, or you are a victim of an attack, these are considered serious incidents. Council will investigate the nature of the attack and take appropriate action under the Queensland Government’s Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.

For more information, or to report dog attacks, dangerous, menacing and restricted dogs, residents can phone Council on 1300 763 903.

We can confirm that a response was provided to the Cairns Post before the requested deadline.
