Trekking misty mountains and gorgeous gorges, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef and spotting cassowaries in world heritage rainforest.

Within one extraordinary destination the Cassowary Coast offers a culmination of 102+ experiences unlike any other single destination in the world and it’s now officially open for business.

Cassowary Coast businesses are rolling out the red carpet to welcome visitors from around the State by featuring ‘102+ Things To Do’ in one exceptional holiday destination.

With a State-wide destination marketing campaign in conjunction with Tropical Coast Tourism (TCT), the Cassowary Coast Regional Council will join forces with local businesses to leverage the opportunity which the lifting of Stage two restrictions have presented with intrastate tourism.

The campaign goes live via the Tropical Coast Tourism website this Friday 5 June 2020, www.tropicalcoasttourism.com.au/102-things.

In support of the initiative, Council will open its caravan parks and camping grounds as of midday on Thursday and Visitor Information Centres will open from the weekend.

  • Kurrimine, Hull Heads and Bingil Bay Caravan Parks will open as of midday on Thursday 4 June 2020
  • Tully RV parking area will open to self-contained RV’s only, permits for bookings are to be obtained from the Tully Visitor Information Centre
  • Cowley beach Caravan Park to open late June subject to appointment of a caretaker (currently advertised)

Furthermore, Council’s community halls and public facilities are now available for bookings of groups of no more than 20 people. All patrons will have to comply with COVID-19 restrictions including social distancing and site safety plans.

Quotes attributed to Cassowary Coast Regional Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism, Councillor Kylie Farinelli:

‘Other regions have had a ‘101 things to do’ campaign. We went one better than that,’

‘The important thing is to remind our locals and people from within neighbouring regions about the wonderful local opportunities available to us and that locals from across the region will be the first to make a positive impact on our economic sectors,’

‘The campaign hopes to remind and highlight to people the wonderful attractions, recreational and cultural opportunities that are on their doorstep in the Cassowary Coast.’

Quotes attributed to Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group – Mark Nolan:

“While the campaign was originally intended (and still is) to act as part of a longer term campaign, the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating effects on regional tourism has made it even more poignant to our present situation,”

‘Getting our business sectors back on their feet has to be an important priority of this Council. Tourism is a key sector around which so many other businesses depend.”
