Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Budget 2021/22 delivers a $3.2 million investment into waste management facilities and processes.

Cassowary Council Mayor Mark Nolan said this investment will support new infrastructure and technologies at our waste management facilities and improve the services available to the community.

“As Council moves to bring all waste management facilities in-house, effective 1 August, we are investing in our facilities to ensure the services available are at a high standard for community use.

“In the Budget for 2021/22, Council is upgrading the Mission Beach Transfer Station, investing $912K to increase the facilities size, usability and safety including a dedicated area to drop off recyclables.”

“Council is also investing $1.97 million into the Stoters Hill Landfill site to increase capacity, along with infrastructure upgrades to Stoters Hill Site and Tully Landfill site valued at $150K,” said Mayor Nolan.

“To encourage recycling, the Tully Waste Transfer Station will receive an upgrade to the recycling area totalling $50K. Residents will have a designated area to separate waste (for example eWaste and white goods) directly near the wet waste floor. This will improve functionality and make it easier for residents to make environmentally friendly decisions,” he said.

There will be more information released in the next weeks about the upcoming changes to the Cassowary Coast Waste Facilities which will be released through Council’s website and Facebook Page.
