Scenic Locations on Offer For Roadside Vendor Opportunities

Back

Roadside vendors are a common sight when travelling and often offer a distinctive insight into the culinary delights of the region.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Councillor Trudy Tschui said from the diverse offering of tropical fruit and vegetables to a great cup of coffee; roadside vending contributes in a unique way to our local economy and activation of precincts.

Council supports roadside vending where it provides a positive benefit for the community, is supportive of fixed local businesses and products and does not adversely affect the amenity of the area or environment.

Council aims through its guidelines to ensure that roadside vending does not impact on the viability of commercial fixed business areas. This bricks and mortar first approach sees approved vendors operating a minimum of 400 meters away.

“In a positive move to strengthen roadside vending in our area. Council invites two separate tenders for the commercial use of Council controlled areas for roadside vending, with the picturesque locations of Perry Harvey Jetty, Mission Beach and Fitzgerald Esplanade, Innisfail available.

“Roadside vendors in these locations will give locals, tourists and a taste of what the Cassowary Coast has on offer and will complement the traditional brick and mortar businesses nearby.  By opening these two additional locations through the tender process will ensure that all interested parties have equal opportunity to tender for the locations. There will be a maximum of three sites per location approved with the ability to occupy an approved site for commercial use for a period of three years,” Councillor Tschui said.

Tenders for both locations are open now. Tenders must be lodged via the VendorPanel System; www.vendorpanel.com.au by 5:00pm on Monday 25 April 2022.

Council has easy to use instructions and FAQ’s to assist with how to lodge tenders available on our website. There is also a link to a weekly webinar run by VendorPanel on how to sign up and use the application.
