19 OCTOBER, 2022 - RV DUMP POINT CONSTRUCTION MOVES AHEAD

Council is progressing with works to install a public RV dump point in Cardwell, at the Port Hinchinbrook Boat Ramp Car Park.

Cardwell Division One Representative Councillor Barry Barnes said the intention of this project was to provide an interim dump point to be used by travellers visiting Cardwell until further sewerage infrastructure in the CBD can be funded and installed.

“A dump point in Cardwell will enable the nomination of Cardwell as a RV-friendly Town. This initiative of the CMCA has benefited hundreds of communities across Australia, with flow on effects into the local economy.

“Currently there is no RV dump point in Cardwell and due to the dump point requiring access to Council’s sewer network, the location was restricted to Port Hinchinbrook.

“Council spoke with Van Parks across Cardwell prior to the installation and all were collectively positive to hear that Cardwell would be able to provide this facility for visitors to the region.

“The chosen location, whilst off the Highway, accommodates access for vehicles towing trailers and has a sufficient turnaround area.

“All other communities in our region (Innisfail, Tully and Mission Beach) with access to public sewerage have benefitted from the installation of a public dump point and Council expects that Cardwell will also benefit over time.

“Future aspirations to connect the towns CBD to the sewerage network will allow opportunities for consultation with the broader community to identify a permanent location to service visitors to the town.

“Council is excited to work with the State Government to provide additional facilities that will promote tourism in the Cassowary Coast region,” said Councillor Barnes.

This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland.
