22 December 2022 - Community Voice Concern With Public Rubbish Bin Rollout

Back

There has been widespread and mixed community reaction to the changes in public place bins which is occurring as a part of Council’s Bin Optimisation Project.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Andrew Graffen would like to acknowledge the feedback provided and thank community members for their honesty and taking the time to directly advise Council of their concerns and opportunities with regard to provision of Public Bins and servicing.

“During the festive season, Council sees an increase in household waste, and we encourage our community to be conscious of this and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle where possible,” said Mr Graffen.

Council’s residential and commercial kerbside collections will not be impacted during the Christmas and New Year period. To address community concerns and identified issues in servicing of Council’s public place bins, there will be increased servicing of all public bins over the Christmas and New Year period. Council do however ask that if you are using public spaces across the Cassowary Coast and notice a bin is full, please use another bin or take your rubbish home with you.

In the New Year, Council will be undertaking a review of the Bin Optimisation project, with community feedback informing that process. Mr Graffen acknowledged that the implementation of the Bin Optimisation program did not meet community expectations and that Council is committed to addressing the concerns raised and gaps identified through the community feedback.
