Tender For Buy Back Operations - Now Open
Cassowary Coast Regional Council is seeking tenders from suitable applicants to manage and facilitate the Buy Back Shops and operations at three locations across the region including, Mission Beach, Tully and Stoters Hill Transfer Stations.
Buy Back Shop facilities represent a critical part in Council’s steps toward a circular economy in the region. Waste is a product which must be managed and, although the community should aspire to reduce and even avoid waste, these goals are not always achievable. Council and community must look for ways to recycle or reuse waste materials for as long as possible. Buy Back Shop facilities provide the community with a space to sell and buy used, recycled and second hand products that have been salvaged before going to landfill. This helps to improve the environmental, financial and social outcomes for the community and assist with the offset of waste levy costs.
The scope of the service to be undertaken by the successful tender includes but is not limited to:
- Maximising Resource Recovery (excluding those activities associated with DrumMuster and general ferrous, non-ferrous materials and used lead acid batteries).
- Staffing the Buy Back Shop during nominated hours for receipt and sale of resources recovered.
- Actively work with site staff to promote, identify, divert, recover, transport and store recovered goods to the Buy Back Shop and make available for sale at low cost.
- All metals identified as scrap will remain the property of Cassowary Coast Regional Council unless otherwise agreed.
The successful tender will be for three years with extensions. Interested operators can find more information regarding this tender at www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au/tenders-quotes.
