Council's Operational Plan 2023-2024 was endorsed at the June Local Government Meeting which outlines 56 initiatives that work towards achieving the Council’s long-term objectives as outlined in the Corporate Plan 2021-2025.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor Mark Nolan said the Operational Plan strikes the right balance between meeting the community’s needs and necessary investment in Council’s services and delivery.

“Each year, Council is required to review its activities and responsibilities to ensure we are achieving the goals outlined in the Corporate Plan to meet the community’s expectations. This Operational Plan also responds to the outcomes of the Community Scorecard 2022, as well as continuing to strive to provide excellence in service delivery for our community.

“The 56 initiatives represent a clear and financially responsible way forward to deliver outcomes in the areas where Council has regulatory responsibility for service delivery as well as the areas where our community has told us are most important, including community, economy, infrastructure, our region and organisation.

“Initiatives include a focus on essential service delivery that is financially sustainable, with a strong emphasis on water and wastewater improvements, road maintenance, delivery of library programs, economic development, planning and development services.

“Council team members are also a focus in the plan, which is underpinned by the ethos of ‘Growing Our Own’ through succession planning, encouraging and supporting ongoing career development and learning.

“Within Economic Development, the initiatives focus on generating a diverse economy that provides opportunities for business and investment with an integrated approach to long-term planning.

“In 2023-2024 Council will continue to focus on environmental sustainability and through engaging with our community and will adopt a Waste Strategy that will provide effective and environmentally responsible waste management across our region. The Waste Strategy will also align with Queensland Government’s ambitious target for 2050, which include 25% reduction in household waste, 90% of waste is recovered and does not go to landfill and 75% recycling rates across all waste types.

“There are so many great initiatives outlined in the Operational Plan 2023-2024 that are fundamental to delivering a vibrant and prosperous community and delivering our vision, of One Coast, Cassowary Coast

“My fellow Councillors and I look forward to seeing outcomes delivered in 2023-2024,” said Mayor Nolan.
