Changed traffic conditions for Jubilee Road users
Changed traffic conditions will be in place whilst Council is undertaking numerous projects to renew infrastructure located along Jubilee Road, Jubilee Heights.
Council’s Asset Sustainability portfolio holder Councillor Barry Barnes said Council has undertaken projects across the region to replace and upgrade ageing infrastructure with a causeway and two culvert in Jubilee Heights the next on the list.
“This project has been on our radar after routine inspections identified that the culverts, including those under the causeway had reached its end of life and required replacement.
“The causeway is located on Jubilee Road, at the intersection of Poly Creek Road and the two culverts renewal projects are between Polly Creek Road and Flying Fish Point Road. Due to the terrain and lack of space, it is not feasible to put in place a side track. A detour will be in place for local residents during each project.”
Councillor Barnes said that Council appreciates the patience of residents and the travelling public whilst these important works are undertaken and apologise for any delays that a detour may cause.
“Once completed, the road will have greater flood immunity by increasing the current culvert sizes and raising the road by 0.5 metres at the causeway site. Culverts are a type of drainage pipe or channel typically built into roads to provide an opening beneath the surface for water to flow through to a nearby location for stormwater runoff during heavy rainfall events."
Works are expected to commence from Monday 24 July 2023 and take about 80 days, subject to weather and site conditions. A letterbox drop is also being undertaken for residents near the site location.
The $650,000 project is fully funded by Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
