Wheels Up at the Warrina Lakes Pump Track

Wheels were turning at the opening of the Warrina Lakes Pump Track on Saturday with the community eager to try out the new track.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Division Four Councillor Nick Pervan said community members were excited to try out the track and assembled in numbers over the weekend to enjoy the new facility.

“It was rewarding to see a project strongly supported by the community even after postponing the original opening event.

“Council appreciates the community support and patience during the work delays from the unfortunate wet weather but wanted to ensure the community we would pedal right through to the end to deliver this project.

“Pump tracks are a fun and exciting riding space that fosters important skill-building and is a safe learning environment away from vehicular traffic,” said Councillor Pervan.

After community feedback, the final design included two pump tracks; a smaller one for beginners and a larger track that includes rollers and large berms, multiple transitions, dragon back, and doubles. 

With the completion of the pump track as part of the Warrina Lakes Strategic Master Plan, Council continues to deliver the priority projects that will achieve an attractive, welcoming, and functional facility for residents and visitors.

The Warrina Lakes Pump Track was built by World Trail, one of the largest and most experienced mountain bike trail companies and aims to attract the attention of riders of all abilities and experiences. It is a great facility designed for all ages to experience and enjoy.

A community member Ryan Melita said the new pump track fills me with excitement.

“I truly believe it’s what our community needs, to create a space where current and future generations can come together, have fun, and develop their skills to become champions.

“The addition of this new pump track will encourage greater unity and resilience within our community where families can come together, enjoy themselves, and engage with one another,” said Mr Melita.

The Warrina Lakes Pump Track project was made possible through $400,000 in funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.

"To make the most of this track, I think we should look at holding an annual event, similar to the town's Tilapia fishing competition,” Mr Katter said.

"I encourage exercise, and while kids might choose not to exercise, they'll definitely choose to compete."
