Celebrating "Home" - Australia Day Photography Competition Now Open

Back

The concept of “Home” and its diverse interpretations in the Cassowary Coast will be celebrated by Council through an Australia Day photography competition.

With entries opening today, the competition invites amateur photographers to showcase their talent and individual perspectives while highlighting the unique beauty of the region.

Community and Culture portfolio holder, Councillor Trudy Tschui explained how the theme of "Home" seeks to explore and celebrate the myriad of ways in which individuals perceive and connect with the Cassowary Coast.

“It could be a person, place or a thing that collectively will create a broad abstract that reflects the diversity of our community,” said Cr. Tschui.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone in the region to showcase their artistic talents, creativity and celebrate the concept of home.

“We invite all amateur photographers to share their unique interpretations of home and be part of our Australia Day celebration. Competition entrants will be on display at the 2024 Australia Day Awards Ceremony, held on the evening of Thursday 25 January where the winners will be announced. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three winners across three categories - Open, Youth and People’s Choice.

Judging criteria require entrants to provide a written reflection of up to 100 words that connects the theme of ‘Home’ to the image.

Entry submissions are accepted at Council Customer Service outlets, and Cassowary Coast Libraries until 10 January 2024.
