Financial Assistance and Support Services
The Australian and Queensland Governments have now activated the jointly-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) for the Cassowary Coast to offer assistance and support for residents affected by ex-TC Jasper and subsequent major flooding.
The following grants have been activated as part of the community recovery package:

up to $1,765 for individuals (up to $5,300 for a family) to eligible people who do not have the relevant insurance and have had damage to their homes and belongings as a result of the disaster and who meet the income threshold. up to $50,000 per household for people who are uninsured or unable to claim insurance as a contribution towards repairs to their home to make it secure and safe and who meet the income threshold. Apply at https://www.qld.gov.au/community/disasters-emergencies or call 1800 173 349.

up to four essential service reconnections (e.g., electricity, gas, water or sewerage) at maximum $200 each and repair to damaged service items to a maximum total of $4,200. Apply at https://www.qld.gov.au/community/disasters-emergencies or call 1800 173 349.

Centrelink or with MyGov account who have lost income can claim up to $1,000 per adult and
$400 per child in the care of an affected adult. Claim online via MyGov or call the Australian Government Emergency Information Line 180 22 66. -
Disaster Assistance Grants:
Grants of up to $50,000 are available for affected small businesses following Tropical Cyclone Jasper, commencing 13 December 2023 to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, replace or repair damaged infrastructure and stock and other costs associated with the recovery process. Businesses should take photographs of the direct damage to accompany their application/s. Small Business Wellness Coaches:

Small Business Financial Counselling:
Businesses experiencing or at risk of experiencing financial hardship can access free, impartial and confidential support, including cash flow planning, budgeting and insolvency advice.

Tourism Business Financial Counselling Service
The Queensland Tourism Business Financial Counselling Service provides free financial counselling support to help tourism operators who have been financially impacted as a result of natural disasters and economic challenges. -
Disaster Assistance Grants for Primary Producers
Grants of up to $75,000 are available for affected producers following Tropical Cyclone Jasper, commencing 13 December 2023, to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, replace fencing and other costs associated with the recovery process. Producers should take photographs of the direct damage to accompany their application/s. Report damage to your farm
Report any damages or losses to your farm through the disaster impact survey.
These reports help determine if you will need extra support during recovery. You need to include date-stamped photos, which most mobile phone cameras do automatically.
Access financial support
You may be able to access:
- freight subsidies and QRIDA low interest loans through an Individual Disaster Stricken Property declaration
- personal hardship assistance
- essential services safety and reconnection grant.
More financial support might be announced when we know more about the impact of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program supports not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations with funding to re-establish their facilities and activities after extreme natural events, including floods, fire, cyclones and severe storms.
Funding of up to $5000 may be available for eligible sport and active recreation organisations located in areas declared under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). Where the organisation’s LGA is listed under categories for “Personal Hardship Assistance” or “Reconstruction of Essential Public Assets”, funding will be available for application up to 3 months from the latest activation date of the event.
