Recovery Hubs for Flood Affected Residents
Cassowary Coast Regional Council alongside the State Government Community Recovery, have activated a drop in Community Recovery Hub in the Cardwell community.
The hub is activated to assist those in need who have been impacted by the North and Far North Tropical Low Floods. Residents experiencing hardship can access support from the State Government Community Recovery personal and, apply for grants, as well as receive emotional and wellbeing assistance. Community Recovery workers will help with grant applications and provide referrals to other community organisations and government agencies for further assistance.

Flood Recovery Grants Available for Cassowary Coast Residents
If you’ve been affected by the recent flooding across the Cassowary Coast, there are a range of recovery grants, loans, and assistance schemes available to help you get back on your feet. Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or farmer, support is available from both the Queensland and Australian governments.

For: Residents facing immediate hardship from flooding, covering essentials like food, shelter, and medications.
Amount: $180 per person (up to $900 for families of five or more).- Eligible:
- Residents or people stranded in flood-affected areas.
- Those who have experienced personal hardship.
- Individuals unable to meet immediate needs (food, clothing, medication, accommodation).
- Non-Eligible:
- Isolated on your own property (unless this caused hardship).
- Losses due to business disruption or income loss.
- Property damage outside of the main house, including tools of trade.
- Loss of electricity or essential services to the home.

For: Those who lost essential services (electricity, water, sewerage) for more than 5 days.
Amount: $150 per person (up to $750 for families of five or more).- Eligible:
- Residents in declared disaster areas who lost one or more essential services (electricity, gas, water, sewerage) for more than five consecutive days.
- People suffering personal hardship due to the loss of services.
- Non-Eligible:
- Loss of service for less than five days.
- Residents who stayed in the property unless this caused hardship.
- Loss of business or income, property damage other than the main house, or loss of tools of trade.

For: Replacing lost essential household items like fridges, beds, and linen.
Amount: $1765 per person (up to $5300 for couples and families).- Eligible:
- Those living in the affected area who owned the lost essential household items (e.g., bed linen, white goods).
- People who are uninsured or unable to claim insurance.
- Income limits apply (see income criteria above).

- Loss of non-essential items.
- People who don't meet the income limits or who are not insured.

Amount: Up to $80,000 to help make homes safe, secure, and habitable.- Eligible:
- Homeowners in recognized disaster areas whose homes sustained structural damage.

- Those without insurance to cover the repair costs.
- Income limits apply (as mentioned above).

- Investment properties, caravans, boats, sheds, or properties that are not the primary residence.
- Non-structural damage or pre-existing damage.

Amount: $1000 for adults, $400 for children under 16.- Eligible:
- Residents in declared disaster areas whose homes have sustained major damage (e.g., structurally unsound).
- The damage must exceed $20,000 in total.

- Non-declared disaster areas or homes that do not meet the $20,000 damage threshold.

Amount: Equivalent to 13 weeks’ income.- Eligible:

- Income must be less than $1,924 per week.

- Those earning more than $1,924 per week.

Flood Recovery Grants and Assistance for Primary Producers, Businesses and Not-For-Profit
More than $100 million in grants are now available to support flood-affected primary producers, small businesses, and not-for-profit organisations across North Queensland.

These loans are available to primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits affected by floods. They can be used to repair equipment, replace livestock, or cover other recovery expenses.
Eligible Applicants:
Primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits in affected disaster areas.Loan Details:
2.14% interest rate.
Can be used for essential recovery purposes. -
Where to Apply: Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loans
These loans assist primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits in maintaining their operations after the floods by covering expenses such as rent, salaries, and essential goods.
Eligible Applicants:
Primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits in the declared disaster zone.Loan Details:
2.14% interest rate.
Can be used to cover operational costs during recovery. -
Where to apply: Exeptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants - North and Far North Tropical Low
A grant designed to help primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits with cleanup, debris removal, and replacing fencing.
Eligible Applicants:
Primary producers, businesses, and not-for-profits in flood-affected areas.Grant Details:
Up to $25,000.
Can be used for recovery-related activities such as hiring equipment, cleaning up, and repairing damaged infrastructure. -
Where to apply: Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program (SRDRP)
This grant helps sports and active recreation organizations affected by the floods with their recovery efforts.
Eligible Applicants:
Sports and recreation organizations within the disaster-affected zones.Grant Details:
Up to $5,000.
Can be used to repair or replace damaged equipment and facilities.
