Celebrating Community Spirit: ISDA Marks One Year of Its New Hall

The Inarlinga Sporting and Developmental Association Inc. (ISDA) is proudly celebrating the first anniversary of its new community hall, marking a significant milestone made possible through the strong partnership between the ISDA and Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

In 2020, Council committed $175,000 to replace the Cowley Beach Hall, which had reached the end of its useful life. When initial estimates for a basic steel shed structure exceeded this budget, Council worked with ISDA to find an alternative solution. ISDA, secured a quote for a superior, rendered concrete hall from a local builder. They contributed financially and volunteered hundreds of hours to complete the project, also receiving support from local suppliers and contractors.

The outcome is a modern facility that far exceeds the original plans, demonstrating the power of community collaboration.

Mayor Teresa Millwood highlighted the importance of this partnership stating, with the support of its members, ISDA’s vision materialised, providing Cowley Beach with a facility that strengthens both the community and Council's commitment to economic, social, and environmental benefits.

“With a team of dedicated and passionate volunteers, their vision turned into reality, with the completion of the new community hall in July 2023. This partnership not only bolstered ISDA but also fosters a culture of community and Council collaboration that drives economic, social, and environmental benefits for our region.”

ISDA President Wendy Lincoln expressed enthusiasm for the year ahead.

“Our committee and community deeply appreciate the strong relationship we have built with CCRC, resulting in our wonderful new community hall. The stability provided by our lease and CCRC's support over the next 30 years is invaluable to us,” said President Lincoln.

Over the past year, ISDA has hosted numerous community events, including Christmas and Easter celebrations and regular Friday socials, all of which have brought residents closer together.

Community member Andrew Morgan said the Cowley Beach Community Hall is a true testament to community spirit.

“Every Friday evening at the hall is a highlight of my stay at the nearby caravan park, filled with warmth, friendship, and a great sense of community spirit.”

“A huge shoutout to the Cowley Beach community for making these moments unforgettable,” said Mr Morgan.

This collaboration exemplifies how Council’s partnerships with local groups can generate positive outcomes that neither could achieve alone. Council continues to prioritise these partnerships, empowering clubs like ISDA to shape their communities, generate revenue, and build resilience.

Council congratulates ISDA and the Cowley Beach community on their first year with the new community hall and looks forward to the continued success of this vital community asset.
